The Annapurna Circuit Trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal. Trekking through this route, you will witness the exceptional scenery and culture of people along with dramatically changing from subtropical forests, paddy fields, a high mountain pass, arid cliffs and mountain views.
The world’s deepest river gorge, Kaligandaki gorge is originated from two massive mountains, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Passing through Manang, the trek starts with the views of Manaslu ranges, Tibetan-like Buddhist villages, woodlands through the admiring Marshyangdi valley. The trail continues over the pass to enter Mustang and the Hindu pilgrimage town of Muktinath and down the Kali Gandaki valley, we pass
through unique and interesting village of Marpha which is famous for local apple wine and whisky. Narrow cobbled streets, hotsprings, apple orchards and glowing snow peaks, highest mountain pass trip mixed with Hindu spirituality makes this trek one of
the most special trek in Nepal.

Itinerary

Our drive starts from Besisahar and it will follow the edge of Marshyangdi River. On our route to Chame, we will be seeing the transformation of vegetation from dense pine forests to drier slopes. Chame is the District Headquarter of the famous Manang.

We will first pass the old chame and climb up to Telekhu at 2840 meters and continue with a long pleasant and mostly level walk through the forest to Breathing, which lies at 2950 meters.

Before climb up to Telekhu, we first have to pass old chame. After Telekhu, we continue with a long pleasant walk through Jungle to Brathang at 2950 meters. This is mostly an easy walk with small ascending to the trail.

After climbing slowly up, we will reach Bryaga, Tibetian-Style Village at an elevation of 3500 meters. An outstanding display of The gompa perched on a high crag overlooking the village is the center of attraction for today. To reach today’s destination, we have to continue our walk thru an arid countryside, prevailed by weird cliffs of yellow rock.

Spend a day at Manag to acclimatize by doing some high climbing, then return to the lower altitude of Manang for the night. Manang, a village of about 500 flat-roofed houses, offers excellent views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Gangapurna, and Chulu East

The breathtaking scenery of the Annapurna Range follows us all along the way. The Kangsar is a small village on the way, as we passed and follow the trail through the gorge, Tilicho Peak can be spotted. The tore monastery, view of Khangsar River and scenic settlements spur the beauty of our trekking. After tramping down a steep inclination, we now enter the Tilicho Base Camp.

Tilicho lake is the world’s highest altitude lake which is located at 4900m above sea level. The lake was surrounded by Annapurna Range and on the middle of the mountains. After visiting Tilicho lake, we head back to Base Camp and make our way to Shree Kharka.

Today will be a steadily uphill climb into the alpine region of the mountain range via Marsyangdi valley and Swifty change in the surrounding can be seen. The trail continues to log bridge between Gumsung and Yak Kharka followed by old Khangsar Village. As its name, we can see a lot of yaks grazing and stand around.

This is the highest point of the trek, probably the highest height you have ever been on in your life. From yak kharka, the bank of jarang khola will be followed by us until Thorung Phedi. If we get lucky, we will witness Blue sheep and snow leopard on our way.

Setting off very early to cross the Thorung La Pass (5416 m), the trail is steep but easy to follow. After between 4 to 6 hours climbing, reach the Pass's peak, adorned with prayer flags, a traditional stupa, and stone cairns built by travelers. Further along, the trail descends steeply proceeding towards Chabarbu. From here on, the trail crosses meadows, drops into a deep ravine, climbs out, and follows a wide trail into Muktinath – a pilgrimage site held in great reverence by both Hindu and Buddhist populations.

  • Seamless Nepal Adventure: Dhurba's Expert Planning Makes Annapurna and EBC Trek Unforgettable

My partner and I visited Nepal in October/November this year. It was such a smooth and well organised trip! Dhurba was fantastic at communicating with us and organising all parts of our itinerary. He helped us organise transport for the Annapurna circuit and flights, permits and guides for our 3 passes/EBC/Island Peak trek.He always responded promptly and we felt very confident in his ability to organise a good trip. We had a great time, I would 10/10 recommend booking through Dhurba and his company and can’t wait for our next adventure in Nepal!

  • Expert Guidance & Local Insight: Trekking the Annapurna Circuit with Pankrash

In May 2022, I did part of the Annapurna Circuit (from Besanhar to Jomsom) with my guide Pankrash Bastakoti. Pankrash had excellent local knowledge and many personal contacts, which he also used to my advantage. He was able to recommend comfortable accommodation and was also informed about the current trekking route, which had to be adjusted due to the recent floods. I was impressed that at any point he was able to estimate exactly how high we were and how many hours still layed ahead of us. He offered all the support needed without being intrusive. In addition, he was a pleasant trekking partner with whom one could also talk about other things besides the Nepalese culture.

  • Great Agency situated in the heart of Thamel in Kathmandu

I asked if they can arrange a trip to Annapurna/Mustang for me and I first booked a 6 day trecking trip to Muktinath. The Guide Kamal Bastakoti was great. He knew all the tips, tricks and shortcuts, he always reserved good hotels, he looked after me while in the mountains and he was always able to answer all of my questions. My originaly planned 6 days go in and out trip turned into a 10 days unforgettable trecking adventure through the Annapurna.I will definitely book my next trip into the Himalayas with them.As an additional goodie, the agency also runs two very nice and clean hotels in a quiet street in the heart of the Thamel neighborhood of Kathmandu: Mitra Inn and Zen Bed and Breakfast. Just in case you need a starting base where you can safely deposit some of your belongings while you're out there exploring or in case you need a good place to crash, regroup and wash your clothes after your trecking adventure.

  • Annapurna Memories That Never Fade - Thanks to Guide Tika’s Magic

I trekked with Tika in Nepal in 2001 and still keep in touch with him. We trekked the Annapurna Circuit and enjoyed Tika’s company always. His English made conversation easy and we enjoyed many cultural exchanges. He taught us a card game that we played nightly at every tea house. I started to feel the effects of altitude sickness in Manang and by the time we reached the final climb over the Thorung La Pass I was not in the best shape. Tika was very patient and was willing to get a horse to take me over the pass, but in the end I managed it on my own two feet. It’s unlikely that I will get to see Tika again but I would happily send any friends or family over and entrust them to his care. Looking through my photo album it’s as if Tika were a part of our group instead of the guide. We have as many pictures of him clowning with us as we have of each other.

  • Contacts, Kindness & Crisis Management - Admiral Adventure’s Edge

In 2002 I met Tika during my first trip to Nepal. He was my guide back then in the Langtang and Annapurna region. In 2011 I returned to Nepal with my wife and learned that Tika founded his own company: Admiral Adventure. Both times I went to Nepal Tika arranged everything. He looks after his customers very well and makes sure everything is taken care off. For instance, we had some problems with our flight to Lukla. Tika rerouted our trekking, all the accommodations and transfers. In addition, Tika knows his business, he has the right contacts and definitely is the most kind Nepali I've met. In short, if you want your trip to Nepal to be an unforgettable experience, then contact Admiral Adventure and ask for Tika Paneru.
