Walking Time: ~ 3–4 hours of hiking
Elevation: + 1,210 m/3,970 ft
Distance: ~ 7.5 km

Your journey begins with a stunning 30–40 minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the entrance points of the Everest region. Our local porters welcome you when you arrive at Lukla Airport and will assist with carrying your load. A quick stop after arrival comes before we embark trekking to Phakding.

The trek gently descends into picturesque Sherpa villages through lush forests and suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. Tibetan prayer flags in bright colors are seen fluttering in the mountain breeze along the way, symbolizing good luck for a safe passage. We arrive at Phakding, a small village along the riverbank, after around 3–4 hours of hiking.

Here, you will enjoy a warm supper and a well-earned rest in a local teahouse before the adventures that lie ahead.

Our walk today traverses through village of Monzo. We soon encounter the Dudh Koshi River, which we cross twice via outstanding suspension bridges – an exhilarating experience that is reputed to be extremely safe. Our trail then heads south, leading us towards Jorsalle.

After we enter the Sagarmatha National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site), we'll arrive at Jorsalle, where we'll take a brief rest. From this point, the most challenging section of the day begins: the steep, 600-meter ascent to Namche Bazaar. This section includes crossing the clear, brightly blue water of the Khumbu River on another suspension bridge.

The climb from the bridge typically takes two hours. It is a tough slog, but halfway you will be rewarded (weather permitting) with your first fantastic view of Mount Everest (8,848m).

Namche Bazaar is the destination for today's trek. The largest settlement in the Khumbu, Namche offers a busy atmosphere with shops selling everything from basic trekking gear to unusual souvenirs. Be sure to sample the local Yak Cheese that the area is famous for!

It should be understood that altitude sickness affects individuals in a different manner, and susceptibility does not depend on age, sex, or even good physical condition. Individuals are simply more vulnerable than others. Since this trek is 5,500 meters high, well above the level of most individuals, responses to it are difficult to predict.

With these considerations, a rest day as part of the itinerary is a necessary safety measure. Your body is afforded valuable time to acclimatize physiologically to thinner air through the scheduled rest.

Rather than complete inactivity, we'll have a light exercise to make this trek easier – an acclimatization hike to a local village and school. This promotes circulation and acclimatization. The highlight of the day must be the potential for stunning Himalayan vistas. If the weather allows, you can look forward to spectacular views of Kwangde (6,011m), Thamserku (6,623m), Kangtega (6,782m), Nuptse (7,861m), Lhotse (8,516m), Ama Dablam (6,812m), and the holy grail: Mount Everest (8,848m).

Our journey leads us up to the well-known village of Tengboche, the residence of the Khumbu region's most important monastery. We'll walk up a spectacular wide valley with huge mountains on both sides. Ama Dablam's iconic pointy peak will guide us through this incredible journey into the Imja Valley! You'll cross little streams and navigate rocky moraines as the trail gets steeper, with the mighty Island Peak (6,189m) dominating the view ahead. The landscape transforms from scattered vegetation to raw alpine terrain, and you'll feel the altitude more at this height - expect some breathlessness and take it slow. Watch for changing weather and pack layers since mountain conditions can shift quickly from sunny to cloudy or even snowy.

Chhukung welcomes you as a tiny village with just a few cozy tea houses, but the views are absolutely mind-blowing! You'll see Island Peak towering right in front of you and massive Lhotse (world's 4th highest mountain) rising like a giant wall. The rocky, uneven paths near the end require careful footing to avoid twisted ankles. Hot tip: Drink lots of water throughout the day, eat regularly even if altitude affects your appetite, monitor yourself for altitude sickness symptoms, and rest well tonight - many trekkers use tomorrow for the optional but amazing climb to Chhukung Ri viewpoint!

Altitude: 4,730m/15,518 ft

Today is your well-deserved rest day to let your body adjust to the high altitude! You can take it easy at the lodge, enjoying the incredible mountain panorama right from your window, or join the optional hike to Chhukung Ri (5,550m) - one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the entire Everest region. The climb takes about 3-4 hours round trip and rewards you with 360-degree views of massive peaks including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. The trail is steep and rocky, so only attempt it if you're feeling strong and have no altitude sickness symptoms.

If you skip the big climb, there are plenty of shorter walks around Chhukung valley to explore glacial moraines and get closer looks at Island Peak base camp area. Many climbers preparing for Island Peak expeditions use this village, so you'll meet adventurous souls from around the world! Watch for afternoon weather changes and always return to the lodge before clouds roll in. Hot tip: This is a crucial acclimatization day - listen to your body, drink tons of water, eat well even if you're not hungry, and don't push yourself if you feel unwell. Tomorrow we continue higher toward Lobuche!

You’ll also practice some basic techniques on nearby slopes so you feel more confident and ready for summit day.

The rest of the day is for resting and getting your gear sorted. Base Camp is cold and windy, surrounded by rocky terrain and glaciers, so stay warm and hydrated. Eat well and double-check your equipment. Hot tip: Get everything ready tonight—headlamp, gloves, snacks, layers—because tomorrow’s alpine start will be early and challenging!

The first part of the climb is on loose rock and scree, followed by a glacier crossing where you’ll use ropes, crampons, and ice axes. The final push includes a steep ice wall and a narrow ridge leading to the summit of Island Peak (6,189m).

Reaching the top is an unforgettable moment—surrounded by towering peaks like Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu, with incredible views in every direction. After soaking in the views and taking photos, you’ll carefully descend back the same way to Base Camp. It’s a long, tough day (10–14 hours round trip), so pace yourself, stay focused, and listen to your guides. Hot tip: Stay warm, keep sipping water, and remember—it’s not just about reaching the summit, but returning safely too!

The trail retraces your steps past Chhukung and Dingboche, with stunning views now from a new angle. You'll feel the difference in altitude as breathing becomes easier and the terrain turns greener and more welcoming.

Pangboche is a peaceful Sherpa village with ancient monasteries and cozy teahouses—perfect for some well-earned rest. This is also a great place to reflect on your summit experience and enjoy being back among lower hills and warmer air. Hot tip: Take your time on the way down to avoid stressing your knees, and don’t forget to look back—you’ve just climbed a Himalayan peak!

You’ll pass through familiar villages like Tengboche, where you can take a short break and revisit the beautiful monastery.

As you lose altitude, the air gets thicker and the surroundings greener—it feels great after days in the high alpine. Reaching Namche Bazaar feels like returning to civilization, with its lively atmosphere, bakeries, and shops. Hot tip: Celebrate your achievement with a warm shower, a fresh meal, and maybe even a slice of cake—you’ve earned it!

As you reach Lukla, there’s a mix of joy and nostalgia—it’s where the journey began and where it ends. Take time to thank your guides and porters, share stories with your team, and soak in the final views of the Himalayas. We climbed island peak with this company. I did some research before in Kathmandu but they had the best price&quality rate.
